Privacy Policy for Governance@Work
Governance@Work is accountable for processing personal information in a safe and responsible manner.
This Privacy Policy explains why and how we collect, use and store personal information.
The processing of personal data is transparent, secure, and is in conformity with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (“POPIA”).
- Purpose and objectives
- When you deal with Governance@Work, some personal information may be obtained.
- ‘Personal information’ is defined in POPIA. In essence it refers to any information that can be used to identify a data subject. A data subject is any person, living or juristic, to whom the personal information relates and that engages with us.
- POPIA is aimed at protecting your personal information and prescribes what we may and may not do with it.
- When complying with POPIA, we will ensure that it acts with integrity and fairness and will always balance yours and our rights in an objective manner.
- Details and Contact Information
- We are a consulting company which provides governance and compliance services, keynote addresses, mentoring & coaching; and team building/development which instils governance implementation through the play of childhood games. Its sole director Raksha is also a member of Boards and committees, and this policy applies to any personal information that she may receive in that capacity as well. - Application
- This Privacy Policy applies in all circumstances when using any of Governance@Work services.
- The Information we collect
- We collect information that is directly and voluntarily provided to us when you engages with us to use our services or supply services. This includes all forms of communication including email and on social media platforms.
- The information that you provide may include current and historical personal information including name, contact details, title, identification, employment, positions held, enquiry details.
- Information Collected from Other Sources
- We may also collect information about you from other sources including when Raksha sits for example on Boards and committees.
- We will process this information in accordance with those organisations policies and the law.
- Children’s Personal Information
- We do not collect children’s personal information without the consent of their parents or guardians. If you are under the age of 18, you should not provide any personal information to us without the written consent of their parent or guardian.
- We reserve the right to ask for proof of consent or proof of age if we suspect that we are engaging with a child.
- What we use the Personal Information For
- Governance@Work use personal information to :
- provide products and services
- respond to enquiries
- send updates on the latest developments within Governance@Work
- enable seamless payment to suppliers.
- We will not further process personal information without first assessing whether it is compatible with the reasons the data subject initially provided the information; or the data subject has consented to further processing of personal information; or it is in accordance with the law.
- Governance@Work will not contact you for unsolicited marketing purposes either telephonically, by mail, SMS or email if you have not opted to receive these communications. We may however contact you if you are connected to Raksha or Governance@Work on LinkedIn. Data subjects who wish to no longer receive communication have the option to opt out.
- Legal or Contractual Obligations to Collect Information
- We may also be legally or contractually obliged to collect information from data subjects to conduct business, for example, where Governance@Work is required by law to gather personal information for labour, tax, BBBEE, and FICA requirements.
- Suppliers may be required to provide personal information for overall legal compliance including processing of payments/ accounts, identity checks, reference checks, assessment of financial records, bank account numbers, taxpayer compliance status and contact details verification.
- Where relevant, we will advise of the details of what we are required to collect.
- Data subjects may also request the reason for such collection of information.
- Sharing of Information
- We will not use or share personal information with any person outside of Governance@Work unless it is for a business purpose.
- In order to deliver products and services and for the efficient running of business, Governance@Work uses third-party service providers eg Afrihost, Microsoft and Google and is subject to their confidentiality agreements. We do not actively share information with them and encourage you to look at their privacy policies.
- GOVERNANCE@WORK may also share personal information with banking institutions and credit providers, and governmental, judicial, regulatory and law enforcement bodies and agencies, if required.
- Retention of Records
- We will not retain your personal information for longer than is necessary unless consent has been received or it is required by law or it is for the purposes of a contract. Personal Information that is no longer required is securely disposed of or is deidentified as soon as reasonably practicable after it is no longer authorised to be retained.
- Security
- We have taken every reasonable and affordable measure to keep personal information in a secure, reliable and protected place, free from unauthorised access.
- To this end, we deploy reasonable security safeguards and online security measures.
- Although we have measures in place to minimise security threats, we cannot guarantee data breaches will not happen and therefore we encourage you to have your own security measures in place.
- In the unlikely event of personal information being compromised, we will follow the processes provided by POPIA.
- Data Subjects Rights
- You also have the right to know what personal information we have about you, to correct it, request its deletion and to determine if we have shared it with third parties.
- You may also object to the processing of your personal information.
- These requests must be in writing on the prescribed forms. It may take up to 5 working days to respond to a request and a small fee may be charged.
- If you require a deletion of your personal information, we may need to terminate all agreements with you as we cannot maintain relationships without having some personal information.
- We also retain the right to refuse to delete some personal information if the information is required to be kept in terms of contract, by law or if Governance@Work and /or Raksha is required it to protect their rights.

- Updated Policy
- From time to time, we may amend this policy to accommodate changes in our business and/or if legislative amendments require change.
